Xicaru Añejo Mezcal: Espadín Mezcal Aged One Year in Used American Oak

Xicaru Añejo Mezcal is an artisanal Espadín mezcal produced in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca. It rests for a minimum of one year in previously used, medium-toasted American-oak barrels.

The used barrels are chosen to add vanilla, caramel, and oak without completely covering the roasted-agave and smoke character. Xicaru bottles the expression at 43% ABV, or 86 proof, giving the mezcal enough concentration to retain its identity through the wood maturation.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Roasted agave, vanilla, oak, light smoke, and caramel. Palate: Sweet cooked agave, medium-toast wood, caramel, spice, and balanced smoke. Finish: Long and warming, with oak, vanilla, and lingering mezcal smoke.
