Serving Alcohol at a Trade Show Booth: Rules and Safer Ideas

liquor booth

Alcohol may attract attention at a trade-show booth, but it also introduces venue, licensing, insurance and safety requirements. Before buying bottles, confirm whether sampling is permitted and who is legally allowed to serve.

Get written approval

Review exhibitor rules and ask the organizer about alcohol, food-service permits, sample size, service hours and storage. Do not assume a convention center or hotel allows exhibitors to pour their own products.

Use approved staff

When alcohol is permitted, use the venue’s licensed caterer or other authorized professionals. Keep bottles behind the service point and verify age as required.

Limit the sample

Use measured tasting portions and a defined menu. Do not offer shots, drinking contests or unrestricted self-service. Stop service to anyone who appears impaired.

Make the booth inclusive

Offer a polished alcohol-free drink and water. A visitor should be able to engage with the brand without accepting alcohol or explaining why they decline.

Protect the display

Secure glass bottles, keep cleanup supplies ready and separate display stock from service stock. Never serve from a cracked, leaking or compromised bottle.

Plan transportation messaging

A trade show often involves driving or business travel. Avoid language that encourages repeated sampling across booths and provide information about event transportation where appropriate.

Consider non-pour alternatives

Sealed gifts, recipe cards, branded glassware or a scheduled offsite reception may fit the rules better than booth sampling. Review corporate options only after organizer approval.

A professional booth stands out through clear value and design; alcohol should remain an optional, controlled hospitality element.
