This Bottle is the first time we have offered our 23 year old Van Winkle bourbon at a proof other than 95.6. We have chosen not to chill filter this bottling, so as not to alter the flavor or complexity of this wonderful whiskey. This process leaves in many of the flavor congeners and proteins that chill filtering would remove.  We have added just a few drops of our precious Kentucky Limestone water to reduce the whiskey back to its original barrel entry proof of 114. The barrels we have chosen for this bottling have been stored on the lower, cooler floors of our aging warehouse, allowing our wheated recipe to age most gracefully. My son Preston and I have hand selected these few 23 year old barrels from a 50 barrel lot distilled back in 1986.

The decanter is presented in a beautiful solid wood, leather-lined box. These hand filled crystal decanters, which come with two complementary glasses, were produced by the award winning company Glencairn Crystal Studio of Scotland. Each bottle is individually hand engraved and numbered to commemorate the bottling. We have produced only 1,200 bottles in this one time Limited Edition.

"There's nobody else in our situation," Julian Preston Van Winkle III, who runs the business, told Louisville magazine. "I can't think of another product, period. Ferrari, Lamborghini? But if you have the means, you can get one of those. That's not necessarily true with us. We have people with literally billions of dollars who can't find a bottle. They could buy a private jet in cash. They'd have an easier time buying our company."
