How Nikka Yoichi 2019 Is Made

This single malt combines whiskies distilled at Yoichi across five decades, matured in a mix of new American oak and ex-sherry casks. Yoichi itself was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru on Hokkaido, a site he chose because its cool, coastal climate reminded him of Scotland, where he'd trained years earlier. The distillery still uses coal-fired pot stills and lightly peated barley, techniques that give Yoichi its distinctive robust, maritime character. It's bottled at 48% ABV.
