Compass Box Orchard House: A Monument to Fresh Fruitiness

Compass Box Orchard House gathers together some of the fruitiest malts Scotland has to offer, sourced from the Linkwood, Clynelish, and Caol Ila distilleries, along with a Highland malt blend drawing on Glen Moray, Balmenach, and Tomatin, and whiskies from near Aberlour and the Benrinnes distillery. Designed by lead whiskymaker James Saxon, this release has been many years in the making, built as a genuine monument to the brighter, fresher side of Scotch. Compass Box itself was founded in 2000 by American entrepreneur John Glaser, who set out to bring back the old model of the independent Scotch blending house.

How Compass Box Orchard House Is Made

Many of the malts in this blend were sourced as new spirit and laid down in Compass Box's own oak casks from the day they were distilled, aged primarily in first-fill bourbon barrels that impart a light oak influence and gentle honey sweetness. The blend is bottled non-chill filtered at 46% ABV (92 proof), preserving the full texture and fruit character built during maturation.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Crisp, bright notes of red apple and pear, followed by shortbread sweetness, honeyed vanilla, and hints of wild strawberries and Earl Grey tea.

Palate: Malty and gingery flavors emerge, soon joined by honey, wild strawberries, and vanilla shortbread.

Finish: Complex and fruity, with a light, delicate character balanced by a lingering touch of spice.
