Old Fitzgerald 10 Year Old Bottled-in-Bond Bourbon, Spring 2023 Release

The Spring 2023 Old Fitzgerald is the 11th national release in Heaven Hill’s Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond decanter series. It’s aged 10 years, from barrels produced between January and June of 2013 and bottled in the spring of 2023, and bottled at 100 proof as Bottled-in-Bond requires: the product of one distillery in one distilling season, aged at least four years in a bonded warehouse. It’s a wheated bourbon made at Heaven Hill’s Bernheim Distillery in Louisville, and it followed the series’ record-setting 19-year Fall 2022 edition.

The decanter is inspired by a 1950s Old Fitzgerald diamond decanter, with the green label that marks the Spring editions, a glass topper, and a faux tax strip that discloses when the whiskey was produced and bottled. Heaven Hill acquired Old Fitzgerald in 1999 and has kept the tradition of packaging it in decanters. The release was allocated and ships in 750ml. Robb Report gave it a 97.

Tasting Notes

Color: Bright burnished copper.

Nose: Brown sugar and molasses, with light baking spices and orange peel.

Palate: Very soft and gentle, with butterscotch, subtle oak, and baking spices, especially cloves.

Finish: Long and warm, with some tannins, a peppery tingle, and a hint of barrel char at the very end.

Food Pairings

The butterscotch, molasses, and spice pair well with grilled pork, smoked brisket, and aged cheddar. It also goes with crème brûlée, pecan pie, and dark chocolate.

Serving Suggestions

Sip it neat or with a few drops of water, and serve in a Glencairn glass. It’s a collector’s bottle, so keep the decanter for display.
