Eventually one of the staves was retired. The Lost Recipe Series goes back into the archives to find what was lost: each release is a limited-edition Kentucky straight bourbon, barrel-finished with 10 staves built around a retired stave from the Private Selection archives, in a recipe that was never tasted before and won’t be made again.

The finishing gives you what a standard Maker’s Mark doesn’t: the Mocha stave, a roasted French oak, brings dark chocolate, buttery pastry, and baked apple, and tasters also find toffee, orange oil, toasted pecan, cherry, vanilla crème, and pie spice, with a long, sweet, toasty finish.
