Like every Blanton's expression, it traces back to 1984 and Colonel Albert B. Blanton, who introduced the world's first modern single barrel bourbon.

How Blanton's Takara Gold Is Made

Distilled from Buffalo Trace's Mash Bill #2, an undisclosed higher-rye recipe, this bourbon is drawn from a single barrel in the historic Warehouse H, the same section Colonel Blanton personally selected for his own private reserve. Takara Gold is aged approximately two additional years beyond the standard domestic release, landing at roughly 8 years old, and it's bottled at a bold 103 proof (51.5% ABV), the highest standard proof in the Blanton's lineup outside of Straight From the Barrel. The bottle is instantly recognizable by its elegant gold presentation box, maroon wax seal, and Japanese labeling.
