Product Description
Corralejo Añejo Tequila: Twelve Months in Oak, Estate-Grown Agave, and the Red Bottle
Corralejo Añejo is aged for twelve months in a selected mix of oak barrels and bottled in the signature red glass. It’s made from 100% handpicked Blue Weber agave grown on Corralejo’s own estate in Guanajuato, double-distilled, and aged at Hacienda Corralejo, which dates to 1755. It’s bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof), and the brand calls it “deep character, smooth spice, and refined complexity.”
Hacienda Corralejo is one of the oldest distilleries in Mexico and the birthplace of Miguel Hidalgo, the father of Mexican independence. It’s also one of the few tequila producers with the legal right to operate outside Jalisco, in the high-altitude fields of Guanajuato, where the brand says volcanic soil and strong sunlight give the agave a bold flavor.
The Red Bottle
Corralejo uses color-coded bottles: clear for Blanco, blue for Reposado, and red for Añejo. In Mexican culture, retailers note, red stands for prosperity.
How It’s Made
- Agave: 100% handpicked Blue Weber, estate-grown in Guanajuato
- Distillation: Double-distilled using the Charentais method
- Aging: Twelve months in a mix of barrels, with American oak, French Limousin oak, and Mexican oak reported by retailers
- Bottled: In-house at Hacienda Corralejo (NOM 1368)
- ABV: 40% (80 proof)
Tasting Notes
From Corralejo’s own notes.
Color: Pale gold.
Aroma: Oak, with hints of cocoa, vanilla, and peppercorn.
Palate: Oak, caramel, white peppercorn, and cardamom.
Finish: Luxurious and full-bodied.
Food Pairings
The cocoa, caramel, and spice pair well with grilled steak, carnitas, and mole. It also goes with dark chocolate, flan, aged cheeses, and roasted nuts.
Serving Suggestions
Sip it neat or on a large cube. It’s also a good base for a tequila Old Fashioned, where the oak and cardamom stand in for whiskey’s spice. Pour it into a tulip glass and give it a minute to open.
