There is something special about that first sip of cold, smooth, and refreshing beer. Whether it is at the end of a work day, or in celebration of a holiday, enjoying a well crafted brew has been a part of American daily life since the birth of our nation. We drink beers while soaking up the sunshine, watching a football game, at weddings, and sometimes even for breakfast.
If you are new to the world of craft beer, then you may find it interesting to know that there are more than 2,800 breweries in the US. That, our friends, means there is a lot of beer being produced in this country. Our online store alone carries over 1200 different types of craft beers. There are a lot of different styles of beers to choose from. You will also find craft brews that have been inspired by pop culture such the Ommegang’s Game of Thrones inspired beer, Fire and Blood. With such a large selection of craft beers to explore where does one even begin?
Enter the world of modern beer consumption:
Like many things do over time, social drinking has revolutionized as society has. Can you ask your friend which beer you should try? Sure. Can you ask your bartender which beer they recommend? Again, sure. But in this day and age you can attend local beer events such as the American Craft Beer Fest, or hop on your phone and open up an app to find out what to try next. One of our favorite beer apps is Untappd. Untappd is a social drinking app that allows you to explore what people are drinking, how they rate it, and it will learn your rating behaviors to suggest what other types of beers you may like. You can check into bars, upload pictures of your drinks, and tag your friends. If you find that you like using Untappd, you should also consider checking out Pintley. It is similar to Untappd in the fact that it will recommend beers based off of your reviews, but it will also notify you of where you can find free beer tastings near you. If there is anything better than beer, it’s free beer!
Now that we have armed you with the some basic beer consumption guidance, go out and find yourself a cold one, raise it up, and join us in a toast in thanks to the many beer makers who make one of our favorite activities possible.
