Reposado, in Spanish means rested, but these tequilas are nowhere near lazy. These “rested” Tequilas have an ageing process where they are aged in wood tanks or barrels for a minimum of 2 months. The higher-quality Reposados are aged from 3 to 9 months. This type of tequila has a booming flavor and is one of the best-selling tequilas in Mexico. Tequila Reposado can be either 100% agave or mixto. Quality Reposado and Añejo Tequilas are excellent sippers.
Reposado tequila, like any aged tequila is aged at least 2 months, usually in a wooden barrel, will have an incredible taste that will be better than any tequila you ever had in college. Since the wooden barrels that the tequila is aged in are usually made of oak, reposado tequila will pick up a hint of oak flavor. That blends nicely with the agave to create a nice and unique flavor. Some premium tequila brands will actually age their tequila in used whiskey barrels to pick up some additional flavors from the barrel. This definitely creates a more complex tequila.
