Product Description
Toiteach A Dhà: Bunnahabhain's Smoky Sequel
Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dhà, meaning "Smoky Two" in Scots Gaelic, is the sequel to the original Toiteach, first launched in 2007 and popular enough to earn a proper follow-up. It's a notable departure for Bunnahabhain, a distillery founded in 1881 and best known for its unpeated, iconic Islay single malt, produced using pure spring water drawn from the Margadale River rather than the region's abundant peat. Bunnahabhain is also home to the tallest stills on Islay, with unusually long swan necks that typically favor a lighter, more delicate spirit, making this smokier expression a genuine exception in the distillery's range.
How Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dhà Is Made
This single malt is distilled from peated malted barley, then matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks in Bunnahabhain's coastal warehouses on Bunnahabhain Bay. The heavier sherry cask influence in this particular blend combines with the peat to create something genuinely distinct from Bunnahabhain's usual unpeated style. It's bottled at 46.3% ABV, non-chill filtered and naturally colored.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Intriguing peatiness with hints of sherry and rich oak.
Palate: Immediate warming peatiness drifting into a sweet Oloroso sherry influence, with rich oak balanced by delicate pepper.
Finish: Robust and long-lasting, built for the discerning palate.
Food Pairings
The sherry and rich oak character in Toiteach A Dhà pairs well with dark chocolate, dried figs, or a smoked cheese board. Its peated smoke also complements grilled meats or smoked salmon.
Serving Suggestions
Toiteach A Dhà is best enjoyed neat in a tulip-shaped glass or Glencairn, giving its peat and sherry character room to develop. A few drops of water can help open the nose further for those who want to explore its complexity.
