Coconut rum has a reputation problem, and Planteray Cut & Dry was built specifically to fix it. After years of "suntan lotion" coconut rums flooding the category, Maison Ferrand set out to create something genuinely different: a coconut rum made with real, actual coconut rather than artificial flavoring or extract. It took four full years of experimentation, reportedly testing dozens of recipes, before landing on the process that became Cut & Dry, released as the very first expression under the newly renamed Planteray brand on January 9, 2024.

The process is exactly as straightforward as the name suggests. Ripe Bajan coconuts are harvested at peak maturity, cracked open, and the white flesh is cut out and laid outside to dry naturally in the sun, concentrating and intensifying the coconut flavor before it ever touches the rum. That dried coconut is then infused, not flavored, in a blend of Barbados pot still and column still rum from the West Indies Rum Distillery in Bridgetown, at a ratio of roughly one coconut to every liter of finished product. The result is a rum that captures real, toasted coconut character rather than the artificial, sunscreen-like sweetness that's plagued the category for decades.
