Planteray Barbados XO 20th Anniversary: A Master Blender's Tribute

Planteray Barbados XO 20th Anniversary was created to honor Alexandre Gabriel's 20th anniversary as Master Blender, a milestone he chose to mark not with an award, but with a rum. Inspired by his love for historic rum-making techniques and creative flair, Gabriel and the Planteray team selected only the finest extra-old 100% Barbadian rum in the cellars and crafted a totally unique blend in his own honor, a personal project that's since gone on to earn more than 55 medals for excellence and become one of the brand's most recognized bottlings worldwide.

The rum inside is a blend of mostly column still rum with a portion of pot still rum, ranging from 8 to 15 years old, sourced entirely from the West Indies Rum Distillery in Barbados. Like every rum in the Planteray range, it's aged first in its country of origin, matured in ex-bourbon barrels under the Caribbean sun, then shipped across the ocean to the Ferrand estate in southwest France for a second act of maturation in small French oak casks previously used for Pierre Ferrand Cognac. This centuries-old double aging process, meticulously nurtured by the Cellar Master of Maison Ferrand, imparts a smoothness and complexity that single-origin aging alone can't achieve.

Note: this rum was previously sold under the Plantation name. Only the name and label have evolved, a change made to respect cultural sensitivities and move the brand forward positively; the rum inside remains crafted with the same dedication and expertise it always has.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Spicy oak, guava, desiccated coconut, and dried banana, opening into a stunning floral and fruity aroma, then vanilla, cocoa, and milk chocolate.

Palate: Buttery and creamy, with sweet vanilla, caramel, oaky spice, and a sophisticated layering of chocolate, ripe banana, roasted coconut, and a hint of fresh mango.

Finish: Remarkably long, with lingering caramelized honey, milk chocolate, orange zest, and natural warmth.
