The Boss Hog is WhistlePig’s annual, one-of-a-kind rye, a single-barrel, cask-strength whiskey with a new cask-finish adventure each year. For the eleventh edition, The Juggernaut (2024), the WhistlePig team traveled to Rajasthan, India, where they found inspiration in thandai, a traditional nut-and-spice drink served at the Holi festival, and sourced the spices at Delhi’s Khari Baoli market, the largest spice market in Asia. They built the world’s first Thandai-seasoned whiskey barrels, seasoned with aged rye, saffron, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, fennel, poppy, and black peppercorn, and finished a non-age-stated straight rye in them.

It’s bottled single barrel at cask strength, between 103.8 and 105.2 proof (about 52% ABV), and finished and hand-bottled at WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, Vermont. The base is a sourced Canadian rye, aged in new American oak before the Thandai finish. A reviewer rated it 91 and noted that the finish has some heat, but less than its proof suggests.
