The Macallan Carta Nautica 105 Proof is a limited, US-exclusive single malt from the newest collection in the Macallan lineup. “Carta Nautica” is Spanish for “nautical chart,” and the collection, which launched on September 28, 2026, is inspired by the voyage that Macallan’s oak casks have made for centuries: from North America to Jerez de la Frontera in Spain, and on to Scotland. It’s a Macallan built a little differently from the sherry-first whisky the distillery is known for, and it’s bottled at a higher strength: 52.5% ABV, or 105 proof, which is where it gets its name.

The Carta Nautica collection has four expressions for four markets: a 38-year-old 1987 vintage, a 20 Year Old for travel retail, a version for Latin America and Mexico, and this 105 Proof, which is the one made for the United States.

How It’s Made

Macallan describes Carta Nautica as whisky shaped by three cask journeys: sherry-seasoned American oak casks, alongside casks that previously held bourbon, some of which went on to complete their maturation in sherry-seasoned American oak. In the collection’s approach, ex-bourbon casks take a role Macallan usually gives to sherry, which makes this an unconventional, well-travelled blend. The whisky is of natural color and made by The Macallan’s Whisky Mastery Team at the Estate beside the River Spey. At 105 proof, it carries more weight and flavor than the lower-strength versions in the collection.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Nougat, vanilla, and honeycomb, with almond brittle and lemon drizzle cake.

Palate: Toffee, golden syrup, poached pear, green apple, and candied orange.

Finish: Warm and sweet, with lingering citrus and honeyed oak.
