Product Description
Ruinart Brut Rosé Champagne: Chardonnay Freshness, Pinot Noir Fruit
Ruinart Brut Rosé is the pink side of Champagne’s oldest house. Maison Ruinart was founded in 1729 in Reims, and its rosé is built on the house’s signature, the freshness of Chardonnay, softened by the fruit of Pinot Noir. The result is a coral-hued, dry Champagne that leads with citrus and red berries instead of heavy sweetness. It works as an aperitif, a toast, a gift, or a bottle to open with food, and it’s a good choice for anniversaries, weddings, and Valentine’s Day.
How Ruinart Brut Rosé Is Made
Ruinart Rosé is a blend of 45% Chardonnay, from the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims, and 55% Pinot Noir, from the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne. Of the Pinot Noir, about 43% is vinified as white wine and 12% as red wine, and the red is what gives it its coral and rosewood color. The blend draws on 40 to 50 crus and includes 20 to 30% reserve wines from a range of vintages, which keeps the house style consistent. The grapes are hand-harvested, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and put through malolactic fermentation, then aged in the cellars for 2 to 3 years. The dosage is 8 g/L, which keeps it dry, and it’s bottled at 12.5% ABV.
Tasting Notes
Color: Coral and rosewood hues.
Nose: Intense aromas of tropical fruit such as pomegranate, lychee, and guava, with floral notes of rose and freshly picked red berries. Secondary aromas of warm spices like tonka bean and nutmeg.
Palate: Reviewers describe a creamy texture with citrus and red fruit, including wild cherry, blood orange, and candied pink grapefruit peel, with fine acidity and a satiny mousse.
Finish: Long and creamy, with fresh fruit and a hint of spice.
Ruinart’s former Cellar Master Frédéric Panaïotis described it as a rosé “with a generous roundness and delicately subtle structure, which achieves surprising harmony.”
Food Pairings
The red berry and citrus character pairs well with salmon, tuna tartare, prosciutto, and rare duck breast with cranberries. It also goes well with shrimp, sushi, charcuterie, and soft cheeses like brie or goat cheese, and it’s lovely with strawberries or raspberry desserts.
Serving Suggestions
Serve it well chilled, around 45 to 50°F, in a tulip-shaped glass or a white wine glass to bring out the aromas. It’s ready to drink on release. It works as a celebratory toast, a brunch bottle, or a gift. Pair it with a dinner party starter or open it for a quiet night in.
