Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition is the fifth release in Redbreast's celebrated Iberian Series, a collaboration between Midleton Distillery and the sun-kissed bodegas of Spain that honors Redbreast's historic ties to sherry and fortified wine. Master Blender David McCabe traveled to source casks from Bodegas Quitapenas, a family-owned bodega operating in Málaga since 1880, working alongside the Suárez Prieto family to season the casks specifically for this release. The result is Redbreast's most citrus-forward, Mediterranean-leaning expression to date.

How Redbreast Moscatel Wine Cask Edition Is Made

This triple-distilled single pot still Irish whiskey is first matured in a combination of ex-American whiskey casks and Spanish Oloroso sherry casks, then finished for 16 months in Moscatel wine casks from Málaga. Those Moscatel casks were seasoned with wine for two years in European oak hogsheads before shipping to Midleton, specifically to infuse the whiskey with the floral, pineapple, peach, and honey character Spanish Moscatel wine is known for. It's bottled at 46% ABV.

Nose: A fresh and floral balance of zesty fruits, with sweet tangerine and twisted orange peel, chamomile tea, nutmeg, and rich vanilla oak.

Palate: Vibrant fruits layered with toffee and honeycomb, subtle dried herbs, floral honey, and sugar-glazed fruit, with consistent oak throughout.

Finish: Pot still spices, black peppercorn, and clove, lingering alongside wine-seasoned oak until the very end.
