Hamilton Jamaican Pot Still Blonde is a pale, aged Jamaican pot still rum with a lot of personality. It’s distilled at the Worthy Park Estate in Jamaica, where sugarcane has been the main crop since 1670, and it carries the overripe-banana “funk” that Worthy Park is known for. It’s curated by rum authority Ed Hamilton, whose Ministry of Rum line is built around unadulterated, ester-rich rums, and he made the Blonde with one use in mind: a Jamaican daiquiri. It’s bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof), and Hamilton says no sugar was added after distillation.

It’s a rum for people who like Jamaican character, bright and tropical but not sweet, and for bartenders who want a flavorful base that cuts through lime.

How Hamilton Blonde Is Made

Everything in the bottle is distilled from fermented molasses made at the Worthy Park sugar mill. The base is a blend of extra-light, light, and heavy pot still rums, the same distillate behind Hamilton’s Gold and Black. Hamilton diluted it to about 70% ABV and aged it for roughly 18 months in barrels that had held St. Lucian pot still rum, at the Five & 20 Spirits distillery in Westfield, New York. Then about 12% one-year-old Worthy Park light rum, aged in Jamaica, was added, and the blend married in barrel for another five to six months. In the last month, the proof was lowered to 90 with filtered New York well water, and the rum was bottled.

Tasting Notes

Color: Pale straw to light gold.

Nose: Rich, funky, and tropical, with overripe banana, ripe fruit, and pineapple.

Palate: Tropical and funky, with banana, molasses, caramel, a little vanilla, and a grassy note from the light rum.

Finish: Moderate, with banana, ginger, and a touch of baking spice.
