Blanton’s & Buffalo Trace 6-Bottle Bourbon Set

Product Description

Blanton’s & Buffalo Trace 6-Bottle Collector’s Bourbon Set: Three Blanton’s Original and Three Buffalo Trace

This collector’s set pairs two of Buffalo Trace Distillery’s best-known bourbons: three bottles of Blanton’s Original Single Barrel and three bottles of Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon, six 750ml bottles in all. Blanton’s is the bourbon with the horse-and-jockey stopper, the one the brand says set the standard for single barrel bourbon in 1984. Buffalo Trace is the distillery’s namesake flagship. Together they cover a sipper to collect and an everyday bourbon to pour.

Blanton’s Original Single Barrel

Introduced in 1984 by Elmer T. Lee, Blanton’s is the first modern brand marketed as a single barrel bourbon. Each bottle comes from one barrel, taken from the center-cut of Warehouse H, and is bottled at 93 proof (46.5% ABV). Each bottle prints its barrel number, is sealed in red wax, and is topped with one of eight collectible horse-and-jockey stoppers. In order, the stoppers spell B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S and show a horse race from the gate to the finish line. The stopper, letter, and barrel vary from bottle to bottle, so you can’t choose them.

Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Made at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, from the distillery’s low-rye mash bill (believed to be corn, rye, and malted barley), and aged in new charred oak, Buffalo Trace is bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV). It won a Double Gold at the 2014 New York World Wine & Spirits Competition, per a retailer.

Tasting Notes

Blanton’s Original (from the brand)

• Nose: Creamy vanilla teased with caramel and butterscotch, underscored by clove, nutmeg, or cinnamon.
• Palate: Sweet, with citrus and oak, and, per retailers, honey and caramel.
• Finish: Medium, with returning corn and nutmeg.

Buffalo Trace (from retailers carrying the brand’s notes)

• Nose: Vanilla, mint, and molasses.
• Palate: Sweet brown sugar and spice, giving way to oak, toffee, dark fruit, and anise.
• Finish: Long and smooth.

Food Pairings

Blanton’s citrus and spice pair well with grilled pork, roasted chicken, and aged cheddar. Buffalo Trace’s toffee and spice suit barbecue, burgers, and pecan pie. Both go with dark chocolate.

Serving Suggestions

Pour the Blanton’s neat or over a large cube to taste the vanilla and spice. Save the Buffalo Trace for the Old Fashioned, the Manhattan, or the whiskey highball. It’s also an easy way to compare two proofs side by side.
