Skelly is Los Azulejos’ Día de los Muertos collection: a hand-painted ceramic skeleton, or calavera, made by Mexican artisans, a nod to the holiday’s joyful celebration of ancestors, not to anything morbid. The tequila is held in Skelly’s body: pop off the head and pour from the neck. Inside is an unaged blanco made from 100% blue Weber agave at the Destiladora del Valle de Tequila (NOM 1438) in Jalisco, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV). Per retailers, the agave is cooked in stone or brick ovens, milled, fermented in stainless steel, and double distilled in copper pot stills.

The tequila is clean and agave-forward, with cooked agave, a little citrus and earthy minerality, and a zesty, peppery edge, and it works neat, in a Margarita, or in a Paloma. The bottle makes it a gift, a Día de los Muertos centerpiece, and a back-bar conversation piece long after the tequila is gone.
