Doña Celia Añejo is a 100% blue Weber agave tequila from Casa Maestri (NOM 1438) in Jalisco, aged at least 12 months in barrels that previously held American whiskey, and packaged in a hand-painted ceramic bottle shaped like the Catrina. The bottle reinterprets José Guadalupe Posada’s etching La Calavera Catrina, made between 1910 and 1913 and originally known as La Calavera Garbancera, a satirical image that became a lasting part of Mexican folklore. Doña Celia, the brand says, is not dead like the traditional Catrina: she’s a woman of the tequila trade who leaves footprints of her legacy for others to follow.
