红胸威士忌在爱尔兰威士忌中几乎独树一帜，因为它完全采用老式壶式蒸馏器酿造，且不添加谷物威士忌。它是美国市场上唯一一款纯正的爱尔兰壶式蒸馏威士忌。与绝大多数爱尔兰威士忌不同，它完全由麦芽和麦芽大麦制成，而几乎所有其他爱尔兰威士忌都添加了谷物威士忌，这也是单一麦芽威士忌和调和威士忌之间的关键区别之一。
红胸威士忌原桶强度版与普通威士忌在酿造过程中不加水稀释。加水是几乎所有烈酒生产最后阶段的常规步骤，目的是降低威士忌从陈酿桶中取出时的酒精度。红胸威士忌原桶强度版既不加水稀释，也不经过冷凝过滤（冷凝过滤是另一个常规步骤），因此酒体颜色略显浑浊，酒精度也明显更高，为115度（普通威士忌为80度），或酒精含量为57.7%（普通威士忌为40%）。
