埃尔默于1985年退休时，他已在波本威士忌领域掀起了一场革命，这或许是波本威士忌如今风靡全球的部分原因：他推出了自波本威士忌以桶为单位销售以来的首款单桶波本威士忌，并以布兰顿上校的名字命名为“布兰顿单桶”（Blanton's Single Barrel），以此向他致敬。退休后，埃尔默本人也获得了一款以他名字命名的单桶波本威士忌，这款威士忌采用与“布兰顿单桶”相同的原料配方，但陈酿时间约为九年，而非“布兰顿单桶”的六年。尽管埃尔默已正式退休，但他仍以荣誉首席酿酒师的身份继续参与其中，并亲自挑选以他名字命名的品牌所使用的酒桶。
