WhistlePig The Old World Series Straight Rye Whiskey Marriage
Never afraid to experiment down at WhistlePig Farm, in early 2012 having studied the ways of those in the Old World, with a particular emphasis on Scotch whiskey making, Master Distiller Dave Pickerell set about pairing bonds of 12 year old rye with premium European oak casks.
Using Madeira, Sauternes, Port, Sherry and Cognac casks WhistlePig successfully released a series of refined and elegant single finish expressions which resulted in stunning feedback.
Building on the success of those singles, he wanted to see how they mingled, bringing them together and combining them in different ways.
Introducing the aptly named WhistlePig Old World Marriage, a ménage à trois which skillfully and harmoniously blends the singles Madeira, Sauternes and Port together in such a way that each gracefully enunciates the distinctive characteristics of the other partners.
Whistle Pig ultra-premium straight rye remains distinctly and boldly American and yet the nuances within this marriage are tantalizingly reminiscent of their Old World ancestry.
