Port Brew Mongo IPA
A tribute beer brewed to honor the memory of our fallen solider, Columbus (a brewery kitten we knicknamed Mongo), who used each of his 9 lives in a short – but brazen – 10 months on this planet.
Let’s just say the little dude lived a hard life. Only, he wasn’t so little. In fact, he was the largest of five kittens born at the brewery in 2009. Mongo was so large in fact that his brothers and sisters kicked him out of the litter.
I told you dude had it rough.
Description and information:
Aroma – Columbus was spawned by Amarillo and Cascade, our first two brewcats, so we decided the beer should really feature a bunch of these hops. As such, there is a massive, almost unmistakeable resinous aroma in the beer created by the judicious use of Columbus, Amarillo and Cascade hops.
Taste – Like most double IPA-style beers, the taste of hops that linger for days is at work in this beer. We like the way hops weave in and out of what little malt you can taste. Certainly, we brewed this as a hop-forward beer and think that after one sip you’ll agree with us.
Color – Hazy yellow like an English submarine
O.G. – 1.080
Finish – Dry with some malted barley sweetness in the finish of the beer.
Body – Medium to high body. Certainly not a “small” beer by any stretch of the imagination, yet remarkably easy to drink. A true stealth beer if there ever was one.
ABV – 8.5%
Hops – Columbus, Amarillo, Centennial, Cascade and Simcoe
Suggested Serving Temp – 46° – 52°F
