Napa Cellars Chardonnay
The Napa Cellars 2012 Chardonnay exhibits the classic Napa Valley Chardonnay characteristics unique to this region. Aromas of fresh floral notes, toasted apple strudel, tangerine rind, and pear blossom excite the senses. The palate consists of crème fraîche and baked shortbread, which create a soft, round mouth feel with an extended finish of toffee and crème brûlée. The balanced acidity gives this Chardonnay its approachable character. It’s the perfect wine to pair with baked salmon or seared chicken breast with a light lemon cream sauce.
Grapes for the 2012 Napa Cellars Chardonnay are hand- and machine-picked from vineyards in prime Chardonnay locations including South Napa Valley and Los Carneros. The proximity of the vineyards to the fog and breeze from San Francisco and San Pablo Bay create a cooler climate which is conducive to the cultivation of varietals like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These coastal effects also allow for a longer growing season, giving the fruit more time on the vines and helping produce energetic acidity and flavorful fruit.
At Napa Cellars, the Chardonnay grapes are carefully hand-picked, harvested and crushed. At the winery, a portion of the juice is then cold fermented in stainless steel tanks. The balance of the juice is barrel fermented and aged for six months, and then put through malolactic fermentation.
