Laphroaig Triple Wood
The most famed of the Laphroaig whiskies, multiple award winning Laphroaig Triple Wood comes from the secluded and remote Isle of Islay in the Western Isles of Scotland. .
Celebrating their 200th anniversary Laphroaig Triple Wood is non-chill filtered, lovingly and carefully matured in 3 different types of cask.
For its first maturation it rests inside American oak casks that once held premium American bourbon. Then, after a period of time these are sampled and when ready a range of differently aged spirits are chosen to be carefully transferred into smaller 19th Century style Quarter Casks. Here it rests for its second maturation. Finally, for its third maturation and to become Laphroaig Triple Wood, the spirit is gently transferred once more now into hand selected European oak Oloroso Sherry Casks where it is tended for the remainder of its ageing period.
Bottled at 48% ABV, it is bright and richly golden in coloration with a syrupy-sweet nose that is overflowing with raisins and delicious sund-drenched creamy apricots. There is a trace of peat smoke in the rear, joined by an enticing smooth nuttiness. Add a touch of water if you will. This will bring the peat smoke to the fore and subdue those forceful fruits.
Bold and powerful, the body is lusciously creamy. The palate with no water added will provide a striking and surprising burst of peat since it was less present in the nose. This ashy peat is enriched by creamy-soft vanilla and a delightful sherry sweetness. Had you added water, the robustness of the peat aroma is gentled in the taste allowing the more complex flavors of zingy citrus fruits to be released, it becomes both tangy and spicey. The European oak, balancing beautifully the creamy influence contributed by the American White Oak.
Sweet and smooth, the caramel taste and texture of the elongated finish is deliciously mouth-filling.
