Karl's Coastal Reserve
BIG BARREL
DOUBLE IPA
When we kicked-off this series of intense hoppy beers, we wanted to go big. Imported New Zealand Nelson Sauvin hops provide a vibrant tropical aroma that raises eyebrows and expectations. Aggressive amounts of Warrior and Ahtanum hops produce an assertive bitterness that stands out against a firm malt backbone. Balanced even at 90 IBUs, Big Barrel leaves a considerable first impression that serves as a prelude of things to come.

“Big Barrel Double IPA is an extremely hoppy IPA. Made with hops imported from New Zealand, Big Barrel Double IPA has a distinct grapefruit aroma, citrusy flavor, and bitter finish. Pair Big Barrel Double IPA with a tangy bleu cheese to tame the bitterness and notice the beer’s more “earthy tones”.”
-Dan O’Brien, LA’s The Place
“Smells of freshly macerated ruby red grapefruit, mint, faint pineapple, and mangos…the flavors really unfold with each sip…stays juicy even while the hops pummel the taste buds. Hop character is in your face—or ours, rather—it all makes for a very good Double IPA.” –The Alstrom brothers, Beer Advocate Magazine
