Compass Box The Lost Blend
The Lost Blend from Compass Box Whiskey Company in the Highlands of Scotland, is a limited edition, named to honor their own lost blend, Eleuthera, which, owing to the loss of a key ingredient had to be retired in 2004. The Lost Blend is also a story from the early 1900's the tale of two forgetful bar tenders who had mislaid a very special recipe which, from a blend of spirits, created a drink possessing supernatural powers.
Whilst this does not claim to provide psychic powers, The Lost Blend is carefully crafted, blending two unpeated whiskeys; a single malt from the Clynelish distillery, with an (almost 20 year old) American oak barrel aged whiskey from Allt-A-Bhainne distillery. To this is added a lightly peated malt from the Caol Lla distillery. Yellow hay colored, it comprises a complex double fruit union, which has a pleasing earthy fragrance. The character is sweet, intertwined with herbal tones, fruits and an underlayer of peaty smokiness that lingers on at the finish.
There are three different label designs, paying further tribute to the theme of lost things. However the experience of this beverage is unforgettable, one to immerse and lose yourself in.
